Frequently Asked Questions

10 common questions about PaycheckCalculatorOnline and paycheck taxes answered.

Our tax calculations are built directly from IRS Publication 15-T (Federal Income Tax Withholding Methods) and each state's Department of Revenue withholding tables — the same sources your employer's payroll software uses. We run a full update every December and January ahead of each new tax year, and I personally audit the brackets mid-year whenever states pass rate changes. That said, our results are estimates. Your actual take-home pay can differ slightly if your employer has additional deductions not entered in the calculator, if your city or county has local income taxes, or if your W-4 has specific additional withholding amounts. For anything involving official payroll records, verify with your HR or a CPA.
